Music Mondays: Forevermore – Side A

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent”

    ― Victor Hugo

I am looking for a quote that will directly speak to me and describe what music is in my life in fewer words than I could ever come up with. Fortunately, I found the quote above very fitting with my relationship with music. There are days when you got thoughts in your head and then you just find a song that perfectly says exactly what you are thinking. It is about relating to a song or even in a simple melody with no lyrics. Just like me having to Google a quote because I know someone said it better than I would ever have. That’s why some people can relate to other songs, while others can’t. You can find music for angsty teenagers, for a breakup, for falling in love, for being yourself. It’s why we say “This song gets me” and probably become our favorite.

Maybe, you are wondering why am I having this monologue with music. “Where is she going with this?”, you might think. Well, it’s because I’ll be starting to post songs that affect me in any way. It can be from my elementary days or it can be as present as today. Anyway, I am calling these posts “Music Monday” – too cliché, right? But I don’t care, I love it! (that’s Icona Pop for you, folks! LOL!)

There is no question on what song am I going to share to you for my first Music Monday post. Of course, it’s supposed to be MY FAVORITE SONG – OF ALL TIME! Some of you, okay, maybe a majority of you will not know this song because the original band who composed and played this is a local band, a Filipino pop band called Side A. This song became my favorite because of a homework in high school. Who would’ve thought, right? The assignment was we were supposed to translate an English song to our native language. After that homework, me and this song have stood the test of time up until now. LOL! All my close friends and family knew that this is my favorite song because I’m not ashamed of letting them know and I’m very vocal about it.

There are times when I just want to look at your face
with the stars in the night
There are times when I just want to feel your embrace
in the cold night
I just can’t believe that you are mine now

You were just a dream that I once knew
I never thought I would be right for you
I just can’t compare you with anything in this world
You’re all I need to be with forevermore

I love every part of this song even though it’s one of those too-mushy-for-its-own-good song. Maybe that’s why it is a popular wedding song here in the Philippines. This is about your dream girl/boy who’s not a dream anymore because he/she is a part of your reality now and you’re off to your own happily ever after. Perfect for weddings, right? Enjoy listening and let me know in the comments what’s your favorite song and why it is special to you. 🙂

P.S: David Archuleta of American Idol also has his version of this song. You also might want to check it out. 🙂

got a ribboN in my pocket

kept it hidden for life

a bright crimson is the cOlor

for the one who’ll call me wife

staring aT the skyline, waiting

knowing you can’t be far

anticipating when you’ll coMe

Erasing a past love’s scar

at last i see your sincere smile

in the wArm sun it blends

i hand you the crimson ribbon

hold on to us from both ends

love is the old laNguage we speak

over time it’s pure bliss

seasons have changed yet we remain

the ribbon is sTill in place

rough roads ahead have come our way

we fought to stay upright

forever’s a word in my head

ending the Tunnel with light

guessing i spoke much too soon

when things fall apart then

feeling like ceramic statues

cannOt be glued back again

we tried hard together i knew

and Both our hearts have died

you left me on the ground in tears

cutting the ribbon from your sidE

Love Tips from the Parents

Yesterday, as I was browsing through the cool blogs that I follow and looking for a blog post that I can comment on (due to our eleventh day assignment in Blogging 101: Zero to Hero), I  stumbled upon Every Girls Fairytale blog post “How can I love someone I argue with all the time?“. After reading the whole post, I can’t help myself but to leave a comment (eleventh day assignment: DONE!) and then suddenly it occurs to me…in the most surprising light bulb moment at that time…TING!!! That blog post is going to be my inspiration for the twelfth day assignment which you can read about here.

That blog post reminded me of some of my parents’ tips for a happy and lasting relationship. By the way, my parents have been married for 23 years now (I felt like I should put it there somewhere so that you will know that these tips might really be working). Sometimes, during family conversations, they will share tips for a better relationship with your other half (not that we need it now! me and my sisters are still young! LOL!).

1. Open communication is VERY important. My mother always says that it is really vital for any relationship to have an open communication. It is crucial for ANY relationship (not just romantic) to have an easy communication between the parties. My mother and father can talk about even the most trivial things. And if they feel like a certain thing is going to be a cause of an argument, they immediately talk it out and resolve it without raising their voices at each other. I’m not saying that my parents don’t fight (normal couples fight once in a while), I’m just sharing that there are arguments that you can totally avoid through talking calmly to each other.

2. Never bring back the past. Ever heard of the phrase “Forgive and Forget”? Yeah, I know it sounds cliché but it’s one of the most truest advice that I ever heard. It doesn’t help either party in a relationship if they keep on going back to the same issues they had before even if they already talk about it and agreed to never bring it up again anymore. You will never move forward in your relationship if you keep on going back to the past mistakes of your partner. There’s a reason why it’s called the past and you should just leave it that way. It’s better to focus your energy and time in improving the relationship for the future.

3. Commitment comes with love. Through your relationship, you will meet other people who you think  is better than your partner, but the moment you chose your special someone means you are already committed to him/her. Every single day, you will choose to love and cherish the same person  that you have in your life and that’s what commitment is all about. It’s about choosing the same person over and over again even if sometimes there are moments that you want to let go. You have to look past the imperfections and the mistakes and to choose to see what made you love him/her in the first place.

How about you? What are the relationship tips that you can share? You can comment below! 🙂

Looking Forward

It is the first day of the year and there are many things I am hoping to accomplish this 2014. I promise to welcome the new year with so much positivity in my heart. I want to bring in the year a much better version of myself.  A version where I will live with no regrets in my heart, no what ifs, no should haves. I will live my life to the fullest and I am starting TODAY! For me, a new year is an opportunity to do better, a second chance at things. It’s like a brand new morning, where I can forget and learn my mistakes from the previous day and NOT do it again.

In line with my living-life-to-the-fullest-statement, these are only some of the things that I want to achieve this year:

1. READ MORE. I love books especially Young Adult novels. You cannot have enough books to read (trust me on this. LOL!) Even though I am a sucker for dystopian and tear-jerker novels, I am also open for other literature genres. So, if you have a good book suggestion, just let me know!

2. BLOG MORE. I knew I am still new in this blogging thing but I want to blog as frequently as possible. As long as there is an idea on my head and it screams “BLOG-able”, I will do it. Also, this way I will be able to learn more from other bloggers and their experiences in life.

3. LOVE MORE. Love your family, your friends, your enemies. Love the world. Love the things around you. Love life. Love yourself.

4. SMILE MORE. Greet the day with a HUGE smile on your face. Smile if you are happy. Smile even if you don’t feel to. Smile even if you are hurting. Fake it till you make it.

5. LEARN MORE. In learning, there is no losing. In learning, there is ONLY gaining. Besides, a new thing learned is never a bad thing.

As you have noticed, these goals are telling me to give it my all. Not just do a thing 100% percent but to do it with MORE passion and MORE energy. I will not accept a half-assed work from myself this year. I will expect the BEST!  With that being said, I am claiming that I am going to do an excellent job in fulfilling these goals. Here’s to a fun and safe New Year to everyone. Cheers!
