Music Mondays: You’ve got a friend – James Taylor

Whenever I hear “You’ve got a friend” playing anywhere, it immediately reminds me of my father (Papa, as we call him). Aside from the obvious you-can-count-on-me-wherever-I-am message, another thing I like about this is every time I will sing-along to this song, I will replace the line “You’ve got a friend” with “You’ve got EFREN” (My father’s name). Clever, right? Right?! No? [insert my sad face here] 😛

Imagine me singing this line with a voice of an angel (just kidding!)

You just call out my name and you know where ever I am
I’ll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer, or fall, all you have to do is call                                 And I’ll be there, yeah, yeah, yeah
You’ve got a EFREN (a friend)

This song is special to me because I feel like it summarizes my relationship with my parents. Ever since I can remember, they have been my rock. A very sturdy rock, I might add. Our family is all about supporting each other and being there for each other in times of need. You can say that our relationship is a mix of friendship and being a tight-knit family. I am very fortunate to grew up in a family like that. So, I dedicate this to anyone who feels like they’re all alone and they don’t have a friend/family to lean on.

What are the songs that reminds you of your parents or your family? I would love to hear from you!

in Time of your weakness, i see power

in your sadness, i see youR smile

in the wake of yoUr absence, i see your presence

in your silencE, i hear the truth

in time of Your insecurity, it shows your beauty

if you show your fierceness, i see gentleness

in your curiOsity, i see pure intelligence

in your utter blindness, i see yoU
